HUMBOLDT PARK — Residents in the 26th Ward overwhelmingly voted to limit new vacation rental apartments in parts of Humboldt Park, Logan Square and Belmont Cragin. About 74 percent of ward constituents voted yes to the non-binding referendum question, compared to about 26 percent of voters who voted no, with all but one precinct reporting results, according to the Chicago Board of Elections. A total of 10,865 people voted on the question, with 8,053 voting yes and 2,812 voting no as of Wednesday morning. The non-binding referendum question for 26th Ward residents on their midterm election ballot asked whether there should be a cap on new vacation rentals like Airbnb and VRBO apartments in the ward to keep apartments available to area residents amid Chicago’s rental housing shortage. The question was added by Ald. Jessie Fuentes (26th) and was a way for her to gain feedback on the issue. The results will help her craft new policy around the issue or enact bans on new Airbnbs i
